I need help! I've had my dreads for two weeks and LOVING them! However, I have no clue how to tighten the root area. We left the rubber bands at my hairline in when we back combed. So now I have a good half inch plus of undreamed roots. Can you give me some words of wisdom?

Jonny Clean Sure, glad to help. =) If it's about time to wash them go ahead and do that and get them dry. If you have the accelerator it would be worth while to spray some just on the roots (not the scalp) right after the shower before you dry them. Roll the bands up towards the tips a bit so they are out of your way. From here follow the clockwise rubbing instructions: www.dreadheadhq.com/… This will help you get some good knots going at the scalp and they will lock in the comming weeks. It's pretty akward the first time you try it, but as you get the hang of it CWR will become a trusted allie in your battle against straight hair at the roots. After you finish CWRing each dread you can roll the band back into place where it will help the knots lock and serve to mark the drreads you've already rubbed. =)

Hello! I have a question. How much work is really necessary to maintain good healthy dreadlocks? I know there are so many ways to answer that question, and it's not the same for everyone. Maybe you'd have to see my dreads to really tell, but I'm asking because I have thought I was in the "danger zone" for a while, but maybe it's just my tendency toward perfectionism? I've had dreads for about 2 1/2 years and It's been over a year since I really did anything to them (other than wash them, obviously), because I have no time. I've got about 1-2 inches of growth at the roots and I've been worried that if I don't do some major maintenance soon they will just continue to grow out. But is that true? Because I've also noticed that I've had about 1-2 inches of growth at the roots for a while... Perhaps 6 months. Maybe I'm just too much of a perfectionist and have missed the fact that they are still locking up, even if it's not right at my scalp. Is what I am experiencing normal?

    Jonny Clean Hi Jennifer,
Hair types, activity, speed of hair growth all play a part but in the end you have some people who's dreads will knot on their own as they grow and others that will either never knot or would knot so far from their scalp that they would not like the result. Sounds like yours lock pretty close to the scalp as they grow. You may find one or two that need help but for the most part they're ok on their own and you don't have to worry about them growing out straight. That said, you'll likely find that the longer the straight hair at the roots grows, the more loose hair accumulates at the roots. It's just easier for new growth to find it's way into the right dread if the roots are knotted near the scalp. So a little clockwise rubbing at the roots can save you loose hair maintenance down the road. Of course fly-aways are not a problem to everyone, it's really about the look you'd like your dreads to have.

Just ordered some Supa Supplement, a small loose hair tool for my lil locs, and some Nila Butta Blast Dreadlicious. Can't wait for them to arrive! Especially can't wait to take the supplement, my dreads been growing out a lot lately anyway, and last time I took it they grew about 2 inches in a month!!! Super stoked! I love seeing them grow, especially after they shrink so much. just gotta keep up with the new growth. I want long dreaddies!

I joined several locs together over the last few months. I wanted more knots and less "fly away" at the the roots. They're neater and easier to...
