Ok so your mind is ready, now let's get your body ready. Dreadlocks take a while to put in. You should expect each dread to take around 15-20 minutes to backcomb. Backcombing can be rough stuff, for you and your supa nice friend, parent, or stylist who's putting your dreads in for you. So we recommend getting some important stuff together for the big day.
• Movies
• Music
• Video Games
• Maybe even a book
• Food & Drinks
• Pain relieving items for you..... backcombing kind of hurts while people are learning
Like I said before, backcombing is rough stuff. It's can be very tedious after a while. It can also make your hands sore, and be hard on your back and neck. So make sure you thank the person who is backcombing your dreads for you. Say "thank you, thank you, thank you."
There are a couple of things you can do to make backcombing more comfortable:
• Get some good comfortable chairs (office chairs work great because they are made to be used ALL DAY)
• Setup your backcombing area similar to stadium style seating. (this will make backcombing easier on your friends back and easier on your neck). Office chairs are great for this because you can adjust the height easily.
Make sure you relax while your friend is backcombing, it will make the pulling and jerking easier on your neck. It's good to have a distraction so the backcombing doesn't seem so intense. Good movies and video games that hold your interest are a must.
