If I've used another wax, how can I wash it out and use your wax? - Dreadlocks FAQ's

Other hair waxes and dread waxes can be more difficult to remove than DreadHead Dread Wax. Even so, you can usually get it out with several hot washings and lots of Dread Soap. Usually the petroleum waxes are pretty easy to wash away. You will want to put rubber bands on the dreads (as instructed in the rubber bands section) to help the dreads hold together during all the washing. After your dreads dry you can use an initial serving of the DreadHead Wax and begin maintaining them according to the site.
